Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 places a duty of care on both the employer and employee to ensure the safety of all persons using the work premises. Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 state that: “Every employer shall make suitable assessment of the risks to health and safety of his employees, to which they are exposed whilst at work and the risk to health and safety of persons not in his employment arising of or in connection with the conduct by him of his undertaking”.
Ensuring the safety of your employees and the public
Whilst PAT Testing is not specifically prescribed within UK legislation, ‘Duty holders’ have a legal obligation and responsibility to ensure the safety of employees and the public. In short, PAT Testing affords stringent control measures against the risk of electric shock and fire under the H&S Act. Furthermore, PAT Testing also ensures documented evidence of the ‘maintenance’ of electrical appliances under the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989.
