Leakage tests no longer falls under PAT testing. However, the requirements for testing are laid down in BS EN 60335. This also covers domestic style microwave ovens that may be used in offices, canteens and B&Bs, for example, that may be used by the public. This European Standard covers requirements for microwave ovens, including combination microwave ovens, and states that items are to be checked for signs of failure, including door seals and safety interlock switches.
Leakage testing requires a specialist detector which is swept around the oven (particularly the door seal) to ensure that any radiation being emitted falls within the tolerance of 5mW/cm2. An emission label would then be attached to the oven stating that it is safe to operate, and certification issued.
We undertake Fixed Appliance Testing for appliances that are connected to the mains circuit via a fused socket and not a plug, such as hobs, hand blowers, ovens, and immersion heaters.
We conduct regular testing of FAT appliances for landlords and letting agents.
IG PAT Testing is a specialist PAT business – it’s what we do. We also conduct PAT testing on behalf of several local trusted electrical contractors. Should you require additional electrical work, which does not fall under PAT, we can arrange this for you.
